updating the site and project talk

for a while now, i've wanted to start blogging. mostly as a little journal to myself, since my memory is not so good and i forget a lot of stuff that i do. self-reflection and all that. (using it as a to-do list is good as well...) i'd started doing it on my tumblr, but something about that feels a bit too much. here i can do whatever i want whenever i want.

it's summer, and i've been working on a lot of projects. part of me feels bad, like i'm wasting time, because i don't have a second job, but the other half of me needs some rest and time to figure out some things. i want to work on some designs for my etsy, and make things i can actually sell. i did some block printing the other day, which was fun. especially carving the blocks, which i havent done in a bit.

i finished sewing up my ryker doll. it's so small and sad, i get cuteness aggression whenever i see it. need to grab it and put it in a blender and throw it against the wall. I still need to make a few accessories for them- their cap, messenger bag, and maybe the bible- and then they'll be done. it's my first time really making a stuffed animal, and it think it went pretty well! their head is a bit lumpy at the temples, but that's because i did the face embroidery before i sewed the hair on. ah well, something to think about next time.

i've been getting very into the idea of quilting. fiber arts have been the vibe lately. i've had the idea for a while that i want to make myself either quilted pants or a quilted jacket. i've got a whole pinterest board of quilted jackets, pants, shorts, you name it. originally i'd thought about buying a quilt and then cutting it up as fabric for the project (and i even went ahead and bought one), but recently i've been watching videos by TheCatBird Quilts on youtube that talk about thrifting men's longsleeve buttonups and cutting those up as fabric. there's a huge thrift store not too far from me that has a TON of stuff, and i just never considered using clothes as fabric before.

I got a little in my head, thinking about sustainability talk and ethics i'd read and heard in other sewer's videos about not buying oversized clothing to downsize/upscale as a thin person. but ultimately, i think men's dress shirts are fair enough game. there's always so many, and i already buy fabric from the thrift store. sheets and napkins are good fabric! hmm... i should look at some beginner quilt patterns, find something that speaks to me that i can look out for colors that fit.

Another project i've been chipping away at is this site! I realized, after making the site for Deviled Eggs, that this site just wasn't responsive or accessible. so, now it is! to the best of my ability, at least. it's lost a couple things from before, but I think the new layout is good. i can keep tweaking the format and aesthetic as time goes on.

to do list

that about does it, i think! i'm planning on keeping up with this blog, maybe not weekly but semi-regularly. later!
